Department Computer Facilities
The department has a large computer facility on the second floor of the Mechanical/Civil Engineering Building which is available for use by all students in the Department. Many software packages appropriate for coursework, such as Solidworks, Matlab, Ansys and Comsol, are available for use on the machines in this laboratory. In addition, students can make use of the pooled College of Engineering ENGCAD computer laboratory.
Access and Hours
Access to the Mechanical Engineering computer laboratory is unrestricted from 8.30 am - 5.00 pm on weekdays and restricted by CARDAX door entry systems at all other times of the day, weekends, and university and public holidays. Not all students will have afterhours access to the Mechanical Engineering laboratory.
Please note that these two laboratories are regularly booked for tutorials during term time.
Printing
Printing facilities are available in all of the computer laboratories.
Students are liable for printing costs at a rate to be determined from time to time.
Conditions of Use and Other Regulations
The University regulations on Computer Use and Administration, under General Policies in the UC Calendar, apply to the use of all computers within the Department of Mechanical Engineering and ENGCAD facilities.
Any additional rules specific to the use of these facilities will be posted on notice boards in and around these two laboratories.
