Regulations and Department Policy Relevant to All Courses
General Course and Examination Regulations The regulations governing coursework and examinations are set out in detail in the General Course and Examination Regulations in the UC Calendar.
Coursework The Coursework Policy describes the Department's requirements on coursework, coversheets, and lateness penalties.
Dishonest Practice Althougth there are benefits to be derived from working with others, all work submitted for assessment must be essentially each student's own work. The only exception is where a lecturer has specified that work should be done in a group. The Department regards any dishonest practice as a serious offence and will take appropriate action as prescribed by Section J: Breach of Instructions and Dishonest Practice in the UC Calendar.
Aegrotats

Students prevented from completing items of major assessment (item worth at least 10% of final mark) in a course, or who consider that their performance in a course has been impaired, may, under certain circumstances apply for aegrotat consideration. For full details refer to Section H: Aegerotat Consideration Regulations (University of Canterbury Calendar) and Aegerotat Consideration: Procedures (University Policy Library).

Sitting Tests on Alternate Dates Requests from students to be allowed special circumstances for undertaking assessment which they would otherwise miss through non-aegrotatable absence are addressed in the Policy on Requests to Sit Tests on Alternate Dates (Department).
Workload for Students Retaking Failed Courses The Department strongly advises students against taking more than a full load when retaking failed courses. Consult the Policy on Failed Courses (Department).
